Here is a great idea that we use to expand on our sticker chart success (see article: Chore Sticker Charts). We initially posted an idea to allow kids to earn stickers for doing regular chores, like get ready for school in the morning. Our printable sticker chart has 20 spots, and kids earn a sticker for each chore completed without complaining. They get a prize or money as a reward when their sticker chart is filled up.
Our kids are already happy to earn stickers for their regular chores. So it was easy to get them to want to earn EXTRA STICKERS for special chores. When we ask our kids to do special chores, like empty the dishwasher or take out the trash, they can earn an extra sticker for doing it quickly without a complaint. This teaches them responsibility and saves you time by eliminating multiple discussions on the same topic. Now, when we ask our kids to do a special chore or clean up their toys before dinner, they get right to it and earn extra stickers depending on the chore. They are quick to perform the chore, because they are excited to be able to fill up their sticker chart quicker!!!
REMEMBER this great tip…if there is any complaining; the child still has to do the chore, but doesn’t receive a sticker! They will learn quickly that they have to do the chore anyway, so why not just do it quickly so they can get a sticker and fill up that chart. The faster the kids get to 20 stickers and fill up their chart, the faster they get their prize or money (whatever you decide the reward will be for filling sticker charts).
